Roberto R. Herencia

Roberto R. Herencia is President of Popular North America (“PNA”), the U.S. bank holding company of Popular Inc. (“Popular”), and President of Banco Popular North America, PNA’s banking subsidiary, with executive offices in Chicago, Illinois. PNA is a $20 billion bank holding company and its subsidiaries include BPNA, a community bank operating 144 branches in seven distinct markets located in six states; Equity One, a consumer finance company with 132 locations in 26 states; Popular Mortgage Servicing, a residential mortgage servicing operation; and E-LOAN, an internet consumer lending and deposit gathering financial services company.

Mr. Herencia is Executive Vice President of Popular, a registered public bank holding company (NASDAQ: BPOP) with assets of more than $50 billion and the parent company of Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, the dominant banking franchise in Puerto Rico. He is a member of the Corporate Leadership Council, Popular’s most senior management body.

Prior to joining Banco Popular in 1991, Mr. Herencia spent ten years with The First National Bank of Chicago (now Chase). He joined First Chicago in 1981 as part of its Credit Training Program and went on to spend four years in México as Corporate Banking Associate and Assistant Manager. From 1986 to 1988, he was Assistant Vice President and Deputy Senior Credit Officer for Latin America. In 1989, he became Vice President and Team Leader responsible for the restructure of problem assets in Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, and the Philippines. In 1990, he became in charge of First Chicago's operations in Latin America as Vice President and Head of the Emerging Markets Division.

Mr. Herencia is a member of the Board of Directors of several Popular subsidiaries and the Banco Popular Foundation. He is a Trustee of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and a Trustee of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. Mr. Herencia also serves in the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Chicago, Operation Hope in Los Angeles, the Economic Club of Chicago, The Executives’ Club of Chicago, as well as a member of DePaul University’s College of Commerce Advisory Council.

In March 2005, Fast Company Magazine chose Mr. Herencia as one of the Fast 50 Business Leaders in the area of innovation. In February of 2004, Mr. Herencia was named “Latino Executive of New York” by the Metropolitan New York Better Business Bureau (BBB) Foundation. Also in 2004 and 2005, Mr. Herencia made the list as one of the 100 most powerful Latinos by Poder Magazine, a publication of The Economist. In 2006, he was selected Grand Marshal of the Hispanic Parade in New York City. Named by Inspire Magazine as one of its “Champions of Charity”, Mr. Herencia was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The Medals are presented to Americans of diverse origins for their outstanding contributions to their own ethnic groups and to American society.

Mr. Herencia, a native of Puerto Rico, graduated Magna Cum Laude and received his B.S.B.A. in Finance from Georgetown University in 1981. He received his M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University in 1991.

Mr. Herencia and his family live in Glenview, Illinois.
