Leading
the rapid and successful expansion in the Central Florida
Region for Banco Popular North America has made Mercedes
F. McCall one of the leading female executives in the Banco
Popular family. In May of 1997, McCall inaugurated the bank’s
Central Florida offices. Starting with three branches, she
has overseen a strong expansion adding 9 new branches to
the Banco Popular footprint in Florida and experiencing
total asset growth from approximately $25 million to more
than $450 million in a ten-year span.
As Region Executive, McCall
is responsible for the branch network and all commercial
lending initiatives in the Central Florida Region. Under
her leadership, Banco Popular has become one of the top
lenders in both the North and South Florida SBA Regions
as well as having received numerous recognitions.
McCall a Community Banker
at heart, has been instrumental in leading Hispanic Business
initiatives and development in the Orlando area. The first
woman elected as President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
in Orlando, she currently serves as the Immediate Past Chairperson
of the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund Board. Additionally,
McCall serves on the Board of Directors of Seniors First,
the Entrepreneur Center, and the Central Florida Fair, among
others.
She has been recognized
with numerous accolades during her career. Among the awards:
2004 Premio Paoli for Executive of the Year, 2004 Premio
Simón Bolívar, 2000 Don Quijote Award, 1998
Downtown Woman of the Year, and the 1997 Business Leadership
Award.
McCall, a resident of Orlando
Florida since 1973, was born in Cuba; she is the proud mother
of John, a Sheriff in the Orange County Sheriff's Office and
proud grandmother of Kayla.
